The climate of San Andres | Colombia

If we had to put a name to a Paradise Island we would choose San Andres. Located in the heart of the Caribbean Sea, this island resort has a priceless treasure. Idyllic beaches, exotic vegetation and intense blue colored waters are part of the appeal of this amazing island. Together with the islands of Santa Catalina and Providencia it integrates the archipelago of San Andrés, a point of great heritage resort located a few kilometers from Cartagena de Indias. The natural charm of this fabulous island is enhanced by the climatic conditions present. Because of its location the island has a warm sub, humid year round temperatures remain above 25 degrees Celsius. The annual average minimum is 26°C and maximum 30°C , with slight variations in summer and winter seasons. This climate is characterized by high percentages of moisture throughout the year.

San Andres Island has two distinct climatic seasons. A dry season and the rainy season. The dry season occurs during the months of January to April where rainfall is scarce. The rainfall records indicate that this period’s average rainfall is 43 millimeters per month. This season is characterized by lower temperatures all year, the months of January and February are considered the coolest of the season. During this period you can use to enjoy the beach, water sports or hiking and walks in the tourist spots of the island. From May to December, the rainy season extends. From October are produced the largest and most intense rains, staying in November and December. Records indicate that the average annual rainfall is around 1700 mm. During this period, logically levels relative and absolute humidity rise sharply. Temperatures during this season range between 27 and 30°C. In recent months some tours and trips may be affected by rain so it is recommended to have alternatives and optional plans to perform during precipitation.

In any backpack or travel bag you prepare to explore the island, you cannot miss cream sunscreen, sunglasses with UV protection, a bottle of mineral water, an umbrella and a raincoat.
