If we are near the capital, Naha and you do not want to move far from it, a good compromise can be Naminoue beach, located at the feet of a temple. Other places of beauty and splendor are Yomitan, Azama Sunsun in the south of the island and Mibaru in the southeast.

In a place where time seems to stand still, where the tradition of martial arts is still tangible are the famous Japanese temples and the best of them are to the north of the island. The ones that excell are the Katsuren castle that is near the city of Uruma, the castles of Zakimi and Nakijin, near the capital and finally the Nakagusuku castle. It is good to know that all of them are UNESCO World Heritage sites and attract many tourists every year.

For a complete knowledge of Okinawa you can’t ignore its food and local dishes. Okinawa is famous for the longevity of its inhabitants, because of the isolation combined with the typical Japanese foods such as sushi and rice. A typical dish, for example, is one with pork as it main ingredient and cooked in various ways. If it’s stir-fry then its called chanpuru or combined in a dish with bitter melon (goya) and tofu, you have a goya-chanpuru.
