Formentera | The pearl of the Balearic Islands

Formentera is without doubt the most heavenly corner of the Balearic Archipelago. Indeed, from an environmental point of view, the island of Formentera has managed not to succumb to mass tourism, which has marred much of the coast instead of the other islands in Spain. This has been possible thanks to the constant efforts of the inhabitants of the island, being careful to keep a very delicate ecosystem intact, focusing on sustainable development, on respect for the local natural.

The tourist services are still there, but have no impact on the coast, reaching for the most part in the hinterland of the island. It is here that you develop a good part of the local hospitality network: because there aren’t many hotels, if you want to spend a holiday in Formentera, try to take care of accommodation a little in advance, taking into account also the option of an apartment or a holidays house. As for the trip, you can land to the International Airport of Ibiza, which is well connected with the port of La Savina, the only gateway to the island of Formentera. There are many ferries to get you there, that take about 25 minutes to reach the destination.

Once in the Pearl of the Balearics, you will admire the beauty of the island, starting with its wonderful coves that dot its 20 miles of shoreline. Most of the beaches are small and are within walking distance. It is true oasis of fine white sand, framed by Mediterranean vegetation and crystal clear sea and sky, where visitors can enjoy all the benefits of the sun and the sea, in absolute tranquility.

Of course, there are plenty of places where they can devote themselves to a more active type of tourism. Among these, the beaches of Ses Illetas Platgetes are one of the more attractive alternatives. In fact, the bays in question are fully equipped with all types of equipment, including the possibility to practice all kinds of water sports and other outdoor sports.

In addition, the beaches of Ses Illetas enjoy a very favorable position, next to the Espalmador Island, another unspoiled natural paradise, in an area of about three square kilometers. The distance between the two islands is only 150 meters, which are passable by boat or by swimming directly, if the weather conditions permit.
